Inspired by Joost Schmidt's 1923 poster for the Bauhaus Exhibition in Weimar, the Exhibition Wall Light is a reinterpretation of this masterpiece of graphic design. Asymmetric yet perfectly balanced, the simple geometric shapes interact and intersect one another in interesting ways, whilst the contrasting materials ensure that each element remains distinct from the others.
Each part is stacked upon the next: the brushed brass upright sits flush to the wall, whilst the bronze semi-circle seems to float just in front - creating a shadow gap and a palpable sense of depth - and finally, the glowing orb provides a fully three-dimensional sense of volume. The mechanics of the piece are both revealed and concealed, its clever engineering allows the circular elements to seemingly float in mid-air, whilst the piece is fixed to the wall with rivets that remain visible, even if they are elegantly countersunk and made in matching brass.
