Inspired by the pure geometric forms in the 1921 painting ‘Segments’ by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, the Shadow table lamp plays with ideas of light and shade, opacity and transparency.
Reminiscent of the lustrous surfaces and smooth curves of the nautilus shell, the frosted glass shade is a glamorous and delicate contrast to the lamp’s chunky metal base. Partially encased in brushed brass, the semicircular shade has one glass face and one metal face, with a curved glass spine that adjoins the two. When illuminated the glass issues a soft glowing light that plunges the metal surface into darkness – however, when not illuminated, the glass becomes an expanse of flat white, whilst the brushed brass comes alive, reflecting the light that is present in the room.
