Inspired by the multiple, overlapping circular forms that are found in the poster design for the Bauhaus Art Exhibition in 1923, the Orb 2 combines globes and spheres - in solid green marble and glowing glass - with cylindrical forms and flat hemispheres, drawn in mid-air.
Combining marble, metal and glass, the Orb 2 Floor Lamp explores the natural characteristics of each material, bringing them together in an asymmetric yet well-balanced composition. The brushed brass tubing creates a light and effortless structure, which is weighted by the pleasing density of the marble base. Set apart, the two spheres perform different functions - the larger glass globe emits light, whilst the green marble absorbs it - and, much like the sun and the moon, they are distinct and separate, yet part of the same system.
